Discovery of the Week: Fruit Bomb

Art Is Hard is one of my favourite, and arguably one of the best, independent record labels in the UK right now. I was introduced to them through my love of the band Best Friends, after purchasing a copy of their ‘Happy Anniversary/Nosebleeds’ single. This then led to discovering a whole load of other great bands like Happyness, Bloody Knees, Pinact, Joey Fourr and lots more, including today’s discovery, Fruit Bomb.

Coming from the seeds of Nai Harvest in Art Is Hard’s forest of awesome music, it was no doubt Fruit Bomb were going to rock everyone’s world with their new track. The Manchester band’s first release ‘Normcore Girlfriend’ is a short but fantastic lil record that immediately hits you with its relentless fuzz and  erratic lo-fi vocals. Crunchy guitar riffs and squealing solos follow the extremely relatable chorus “I haven’t got a plan, I’m doing all I can, to try and get close to you, but I just can’t talk to you”.

‘Normcore Girlfriend’ is released today on special marble effect 12” vinyl for Art Is Hard’s Family Portrait II. This record includes another track from Fruit Bomb, ‘Naked’, plus 2 tracks each from Bruising, Abattoir Blues and Living Hour. All four bands are off on tour to promote the new release, with Fruit Bomb headlining the Manchester leg of the Family Portrait tour at Fallow Café. You won’t regret checking them all out. See you there.

I’m Elli, 20 and live in Manchester. I like good music, gigs, rice krispies, 7” singles and puns. Alex G, Day Wave, Jaws, Talking Heads, Best Friends, Mac DeMarco, The Strokes, Parquet Courts and Tyler the Creator are pretty cool aren’t they. @cometobrazzill on twitter.
