Exclusive Premiere: Fifth Quarter share debut EP ‘5SiO2: Act of Telling’

As a rapper and guitarist duo from London who are currently focused on storytelling through music and art, Fifth Quarter, who often go by the formula/equation 5SiO2, have decided that now is the time to share their debut EP Act of Telling and we are delighted to be able to exclusively premiere the EP in its entirety below.

The project is a three track EP, although with the inclusion of three very short tracks (sub 30 seconds) it could technically be described as a six track EP. The duo, who go by the names of Da Black Shawn Michaels & Hennessey, describe the project as ‘a very short story of a tormented mans struggle and his untimely demise’ and right from the off with the throbbing bass of ‘Cephalalgia’ we’re thrust into that world of despair and strife.

Whilst the production of the EP lays very much within the experimental rap/pop genre, lyrically there is a real sense of direction, particularly on ‘giveintome’, with lyrics such as “I swim good, no thanks to the novacane / heard through the grapevine that it’s meant to numb the pain / ain’t that a bloody shame” exemplifying the EP’s overall theme of struggle, whilst also giving a nod to R&B supremo Frank Ocean who has been through a host of well-documented internal struggles himself.

With this release marking the debut of this London-based pair, keep your eyes peeled for more to come from them in the future as their hugely exciting and experimental sound reaches new listeners and pushes the boundaries of music to their limits. Make sure you follow Fifth Quarter on Twitter and Facebook to stay up to date with all the latest from the guys in terms of new music, shows and more…
