Gigslutz preview – Happy Mondays @ Junction 16 Festival

Although ‘Junction 16’ festival is only in its first year the organisers have landed some top names to perform. Set in the historic village of Betley, the 3 day music festival is set to bring a whole range of people over to enjoy the Pills n Thrills.

On the first day of the festival we see Status Quo headlining with support from Mungo Jerry (the fella who sang that ‘In The Summertime’ song) and veteran Stoke band The Rivalry. Saturday sees a full day of acts that aren’t exactly my bag, but are doubtlessly going to bring swarms of screaming teenage girls with acts such as Lawson, Union J and Blue (I wouldn’t be able to name a song either).

In my humble opinion though, Sunday is going to be the big one! The absolutely legendary Happy Mondays are headlining with support from Scousers The Farm, Manchester acid house pioneers 808 State and Peter Hook and the Light (of New Order and Joy Division fame). With DJ sets from Dave Haslam (Hacienda DJ, writer and broadcaster), Herbie Saccani and my favourite Inspiral Carpet Clint Boon, Sunday is set to be a top day for North West nostalgia. With tickets starting at just £35, free buses available from various pick up points in the area, and loads of free parking on site, get your sick notes ready for Monday and get over to Betley this weekend!
