INTERVIEW: Basement Club

Indie four piece Basement Club are continuing to explode onto the scene and have today released their brand new single “Talk”.

We got the chance to sit down with the band to discuss their new single ‘Talk’, how they met and also about them playing at Truck Festival this year.

Tell us about Basement Club…How did you all meet?

BC: Well…we met at college in late 2017, Quickly noticed we all had a shared interest for indie music and will was interested in starting a band. To be honest at the beginning we were just messing about with ideas and writing songs like our inspirations at the time but once we got closer as mates we started writing songs to a sound we all connected with and yeah, here we are.

You’re playing Truck Festival this year, how did that come about?

We applied for Truck’s Band App and from the start I think we were all optimistic about it and once we got shortlisted it really hit home, I think we all find it mad and it won’t really feel real until we’re there.

How does it feel to be playing Truck Festival this year?

Joe and I went last year and to think we’re gonna be playing this year is pretty mental. It’s a festival we’ve all always wanted to play and dreamt of one day playing the MainStage.

What other festivals/shows you got coming up?

We’ve just come under new management and there’s a lot in the works, at the moment we are putting all our efforts into making our live show something people remember and into writing songs that’ll see us on big stages and support tours in the near future

Your latest single ‘Talk’ comes out today, can you talk to us about that?

The whole process of writing, recording and now releasing the song has been alien to us. We were in the studio for 6 days just making it perfect and in our opinion it’s our best work yet

Who are you listening to right now?

We’re really liking The Sherlocks new single at the moment and we’re looking forward to hearing what’s in store. The Covasettes just released a banging EP, Foals and Mac Demarco’s new stuff is as insane as always and Loyle Carner’s new album is definitely a favourite. We could go on for ages to be honest!

What’s next for Basement Club?

Well next year we’re all moving in together which will make writing and all that so much easier, we want to be touring the UK and headlining our favourite venues and as we said before, there’s a lot in the works and we’re so excited for you all to find out.

You can see Basement Club at Truck Festival on Saturday alongside acts such as FOALS, Wolf Alice and Two Door Cinema Club. You can also check out ‘Talk’ below.
