Just in time for Christmas, Dr Who returns in the guise of Tom Baker in a fantastic looking and sounding 4 CD box set released via Demon Music Group.
Featuring iconic moments from the timelord in his multicolored scarf, the set follows adventures including Genesis of the Daleks which was originally commissioned by Barry Letts along with script writer Terance Dicks which was revamped following an initial script submission fearing it was too similar to previous adventures, it was then handed to Phillip Hinchcliffe and Robert Holmes who gave it an even murkier story line including depicting the Daleks as German Nazi’s the episode is fearsome and intriguing listening.
Doctor Who and the Pescatons has Baker and Sarah Jane arriving in a beach by the Thames at night, finding some seaweed, but not the edible kind. Following diversions under water with the Doctor being attacked by some beast that wraps itself around him along with a visit to London Zoo aquarium where the beast eventually disintegrates, the episode found here is yet again addictive listening.
The final 2 episodes features Exploration Earth: The Time Machine and The State of Decay. Geography, more thrills, spills and monsters a plenty adorn the soundscapes seaping from the speakers, enticing the listening into cowering behind their sofa for fear of the sounds becoming a reality, similar emotions were no doubt felt when originally watching the scarefest Jaws.
With a spoken word section from Baker an added bonus along with the visually impactful sleeve, full colour booklet detailing much of each of the episodes, credits and track listing, this is an ultimate collection of one of the most cherished timelords.
