With support for this Brighton band coming in from the likes of BBC Radio 6 and XFM, Chich, Rax and Alex aka The DuBarrys have emerged as a definite ‘one to watch’ and following the release of two tracks, ‘Undress Your Soul’ and ‘Lilly’ over the last couple of months, they have returned with their debut EP, The DuBarrys EP and we had an exclusive first listen.

Previously the band have been compared to Alt-J and there is a hint of the Mercury Prize winners in opening track ‘Undress Your Soul’ through Alex’s vocals, but rather than proceed down an experimental Alt-J route, the band have followed a more indie-pop influenced path, far more reminiscent of fellow acoustic lover Ben Howard.

The rest of the EP follows much the same suit and ensures that the record has an overall sound that makes it feel like a very polished and complete body of work, considering that it is their debut release. ‘This Time’ shows the band at their unique best with Alex singing about “peaceful lightning lighting up the ceiling” and the rest of the band achieving the perfect balance of acoustic and electric guitar to complement the vocals beautifully.

Like The Kooks and British Sea Power before them, The DuBarrys are doing their best to become the next big musical thing from Brighton and the atmospheric ‘Lilly’, which was premiered by Clash Magazine, is one track that sets the band on their way as the anthemic ‘run Lilly run” chorus adds another layer to the solid four track EP and is definitely the strongest track on the it, although the deep, atmospheric ‘Winter Grade’, which features a strong guitar solo towards the conclusion of the track, is another substantial offering.

With a performance at Isle of Wight Festival under their belts already, The DuBarrys look set to have a great 2015 and with an upcoming show at the Shacklewell Arms in Dalston, tickets for which you can purchase here, expect to see these talented guys a lot more once this EP reaches the ears of the masses!

Have a listen to the EP below and let us know what you think @Gigslutz_
