Michelle Scott brings you updates from the East Coast of America!
You hear the word festival and immediately Europe comes to mind (and rightly so). Now since there aren’t many festivals on our side of the Atlantic, we tend to get overly excited and flock to the few we do get to call our own. Some years they live up to the hype, some years they don’t.
One that never seems to disappoint is Lollapalooza and this year’s line-up surpassed the expectations of many. Some highlights included: (Friday) Smith Westerns, Father John Misty, Jessie Ware, Queens of the Stone Age, and Nine Inch Nails; (Saturday) The National, Foals, Kendrick Lamar, and The Postal Service; (Sunday) The Vaccines, Vampire Weekend, Cat Power, and The Cure.
Since we live in a digital world, it was no surprise that the trend of live streaming festivals continued. However, there were more glitches than I’ve seen in years. If the band you were hoping to catch the set of was even remotely popular, the stream either lagged horribly or froze all together. This was disappointing and extremely frustrating for those of us watching from home. Next time, they need to take a page out of the Coachella live stream book. Somehow the streaming of that festival is seamless.

What better way to get over the post festival depression that has inevitably set in than to immerse yourself in Shark Week. Yes, an entire week of TV dedicated to our favourite terrifying, yet fascinating, ocean predator. I mean, when else would you find people glued to their TVs watching shows like Sharkpacolypse, Alien Sharks, and Voodoo Sharks until all hours of the night? I think it’s our way of trying to erase the Sharknado memories from last month. If you aren’t familiar with Sharknado, here’s the general gist: sharks are sucked out of the ocean by a tornado, are then dropped down on LA, and chaos ensues. You can thank the SyFy network for that one. (And on a more disturbing note: there WILL be a sequel and the title is….wait for it…Sharknado 2: The Second One. Nope I’m not making this up
Now if Shark Week isn’t your thing, don’t despair. The final episodes of Breaking Bad are upon us. Where did we leave off after the first half of this season? Watch the cast fill you in here. The final episode will be broadcast live from the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in LA on 9/29. So whether you choose to camp out on your couch or mingle with celebrities (both living and dead), in the words of the characters from Breaking Bad “Don’t miss it, B**ch!”
